Sunday Sluggers

Posted on 23 March 2015

Clifton Park Baseball is excited to offer its annual Sunday Sluggers program to all players in the 7 year old division, and players in the 8, 9, and 10 year old divisions who are not currently playing on a travel team who are interested in an opportunity to play extra baseball during the Spring season.

The Sunday Sluggers program runs for 5 Sundays starting on April 26th and ending on June 7th (with a break for Mother’s Day & Memorial Day). June 14th will be the only makeup date if any of the sessions get cancelled due to rain. The program will be held at the Lower Quad from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

For those players who are currently participating in the Winter Workout program, Sunday Sluggers will seem very familiar. We will have multiple stations and drills to help players practice and improve on their hitting, throwing and fielding skills. We will also be offering scrimmage games at some sessions.

Sunday Sluggers benefits all players who are interested in improving their skills, but is especially beneficial to players who are interested in playing in Clifton Park Baseball’s summer all-star and travel programs. Last year, nearly 40 players from the 7 year old division participated in summer all stars on 3 teams, and many of them got their start in Sunday Sluggers.  Many players who participated in Sunday Sluggers at the 8, 9, and 10 year old levels are also now playing on travel teams.

The cost for Sunday Sluggers is $35 per player and includes a hat and a Sluggers t-shirt. Space is limited, so please go to the Registration link above to register today.

Should you have any questions about the program, please email CPBL Commissioner of Player Development, Matt Abatto at mabatto@chacompanies.com.

Majors Tryout

Posted on 11 March 2015

We are in the process of arranging a tryout for players who would like to be considered for playing in the Majors division of the 11/12 year old division. Anyone who played majors last year or is currently on the 12A, 12B, 12C or 11A travel team is automatically eligible for the Majors division without a tryout. Those who prefer to play in the AAA division can opt to play in that group and do not need to attend tryouts.

For those who are not familiar with Majors and AAA, here is a brief description:

Majors Division: Open to 11 and 12 year old players who qualify to play in this division through a spring tryout. Games are played on a diamond with 70 foot bases. Leading and stealing are allowed. All players bat and 9 play in the field. Players are substituted every inning so that no player sits more than 1 or 2 innings per game.

AAA Division: Open to all 11 and 12 year old players. Games are played on a diamond with 70 foot bases. Leading and stealing are allowed. All players bat and 9 play in the field. Players are substituted every inning so that no player sits more than 1 or 2 innings per game.

Each division will have teams designed to be competitive with each other. Skill level is the primary difference between the two divisions, with Majors being generally more competitive.

Tryouts are scheduled for Friday March 27th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Hayner’s Sports Barn.

If your child is NOT one of these identified players (12A, 12B, 12C, 11A or returning player), but would like to try out for Majors, please send an email to Matt Abatto at mabatto@chacompanies.com. If your child would like to play in AAA, please also send a note to Matt. Attending the tryout is not necessary for those that would prefer to play in AAA. In order to adequately plan for this tryout, please respond by Sunday, March 15th.

If you have any general questions and are in the 12 yo division please contact Duncan Macpherson at duncanm@nycap.rr.com. Those with questions and are in the 11 yo division, please contact Matt Abatto at mabatto@chacompanies.com.

Thanks,

CPBL Board of Directors
